William Ian Grubman - Author Interview

Image
William Ian Grubman has a fascinating background. He doesn't quite touch on it enough in his answers, but I think you'll find the author of The Storm Over Paris is an interesting person. Here's our interview. Q - William, you have so many aspects to your life, it's hard to know where to start. Would you introduce yourself to readers? There are many aspects to my life - - - frankly, I'm a work in progress. I spent the greater part of my life in corporate America. From board rooms to factories to construction sites, I've worn many hats. Additionally, I've done a great deal of volunteer work and fundraising for those in need. When I decided to retire, I began a new journey, one that would include performing and writing. I'm pretty much a Renaissance man. Q – Tell us about Mori Rothstein. Mori is focused and smart. He knows his craft. Unfortunately, he’s missed the signs of impending destruction and finds himself and his family, whom he loves dearly, in the...

Terrence McCauley - Author Interview

Image
I know this will sound odd for me, but I recently bought Terrence McCauley's new western, Where the Bullets Fly . I read an article he wrote for Criminal Element , and the book appealed to me. I just haven't read it yet. But, it was one more reason to interview him. Thank you, Terrence, for taking time to answer questions. Terrence, would you introduce yourself to readers? I’m an award-winning writer whose work spans across several genres, including crime fiction, spy thrillers and westerns. I’ve written about ten novels and several short stories. Tell us about Charlie Doherty. Charlie Doherty is a character who appears throughout my 1930s series PROHIBITION, SLOW BURN and THE FAIRFAX INCIDENT. He’s a corrupt Tammany Hall cop; part of the political organization that ran New York City for decades. He’s the kind of character that wouldn’t steal your wallet, but would try real hard to talk you into giving it to him. He also discovers that he’s more than that as the series of novel...

Libby Fischer Hellmann - Author Interview

Image
I can't tell you how many times I've hosted Libby Fischer Hellmann at a library, or heard her speak at other venues. She's written a guest post about libraries for this blog. But, I've never actually interviewed her. It's time. Libby has a new Georgia Davis mystery,  High Crimes , so it's a perfect time to talk with her. Thanks, Libby, for answering questions. Photo Credit: Michael Candee, First Light Creative Libby, As long as we’ve known each other, I’ve never done a Q&A with you. You’ve written for the blog, but it’s been a few years. Would you reintroduce yourself to readers? Hi, Lesa and her readers. I’ve known Lesa for at least 10-15 years when she was still in Arizona. Not sure how we avoided doing an interview, but I’m thrilled we’re doing one now. Short version: I am an award-winning Chicago crime thriller author, and HIGH CRIMES is my 15 th novel. I’ve also written about 25 short stories and novellas. I used to work in broadcast news, and then publ...

J.J. Hensley - Author Interview

Image
I always enjoy author interviews, and I hope readers do as well. I have an opportunity to meet, and introduce you to authors who might be new to us, even if they've been writing for a while. Today, J.J. Hensley has answers to some of my questions. Hensley's latest crime novel is  Record Scratch . Thank you, J.J. J.J., what can you tell us about your background without then having to kill us to keep it secret? Surprisingly, my background isn’t really secret at all! What I can’t always get into is the methodology surrounding the duties I performed. I grew up in West Virginia, graduated from Penn State, and served a few years as a police officer in Chesterfield County, Virginia before I got hired on as a Special Agent with the U.S. Secret Service. During my first couple of years with the Secret Service, I worked out of the Richmond, VA Field Office and conducted investigations into criminal activities such as counterfeiting, check fraud, and other economic crimes. However, during ...

E.J. Copperman - Author Interview

Image
Tomorrow, I'm reviewing the second in E.J. Copperman's "Agent to the Paws" mystery series, Bird, Bath, and Beyond . It's the perfect time to ask the author a few questions. I think you'll enjoy the answers. E.J., would you introduce yourself to readers? Hello, readers! I’m E.J. Copperman. (You want more than that?)  I’ve written a bunch of mystery series, but the one you probably know about is the Haunted Guesthouse mysteries. Except today I’m talking about the Asperger’s Mystery series (which I write with Jeff Cohen) and the Agent to the Paws series because books in both of those will be out October 9. (Yes, the same day. Don’t ask.) Before we go any further, is there some sort of rivalry between you and Jeff Cohen? We don’t like to talk about it. But I would like to clear up the misconception that we’re never seen in the same room. Whenever I look into a mirror I see both of us. Which is weird. I’ll have to ask Cohen if that happens to him too. Would you int...

Laurie Loewenstein, Author Interview

Image
I was so impressed with Laurie Loewenstein's first Dust Bowl mystery, that I asked if I could interview her. Tomorrow, I review Death of a Rainmaker . Thank you, Laurie, for taking time for the questions. Laurie, Would you introduce yourself to readers?  I am a fifth generation Midwesterner from central and western Ohio. My ancestors were farmers, butchers, salesmen and village merchants. My first job after college and grad school (where I majored in history) was with a small-town daily newspaper in Upstate New York as a feature and obituary writer. Edith Wharton, Barbara Pym, Richard Price, Ruth Rendell, William Maxell, Bruce Catton and Herman Melville fill places of honor on my bookshelves. After living in eastern Pennsylvania for 25 years, I make my home in Maryland. Please introduce us to Sheriff Temple Jennings and his wife, Etha. Temple is an honest man trying to balance justice with practicality in the hard times of the Great Depression. He detests standing guard at farm for...

Cleo Coyle - Author Interview

Image
I've been waiting years for a new Haunted Bookshop mystery by Cleo Coyle. I was so excited to read it, that I asked the authors if they'd answer a few questions. It's out next week, and I'll be reviewing The Ghost and the Bogus Bestselle r tomorrow. I'm glad the authors found time for the interview. Cleo (because it’s easier to call you that for the interview), would you introduce yourselves to the readers? Greetings, everyone, I am Alice Alfonsi, and I collaborate with my husband, Marc Cerasini, to write The Coffeehouse Mysteries and Haunted Bookshop Mysteries under the pen name Cleo Coyle. Marc and I also work independently under our own names.
