Bird, Bath, and Beyond by E.J. Copperman

I've read some of the other books E.J. Copperman has written as Jeff Cohen and Copperman. I was a big fan of his Comedy Tonight series. I read many of the Haunted Guesthouse books, and both Mysterious Detective stories. But, I love Kay Powell, the "agent to the paws" in  Dog Dish of Doom , and now, an even more entertaining mystery,  Bird, Bath, and Beyond. Kay Powell quit the family show business gig to go to college. She went to law school, and, in some ways, returned to the family business by becoming a talent agent who handled animal clients. She usually doesn't accompany her clients to their jobs, but Barney, the parrot, needed a handler one day. His owner, Patty Basilico, is laid up, and sounded so sick, Kay agreed to take him to the set of Dead City , a television show. Barney's replacing a parrot who died, and Patty already taught him his lines. When he's needed again after the break, the director lets Kay leave Barney in Dray Mattone's trailer. Ka...

A Willing Murder by Jude Deveraux

Image
I won't say bestselling romance author Jude Deveraux has written herself into her first mystery, but the wonderful Sara Medlar character sounds familiar. If you read Deveraux' website, she's living in Florida, loves boxing and weightlifting, and drives a Mini Cooper. Sara Medlar is a retired romance writer, lives in Florida, boxes, lifts weights, and drives a yellow Mini Cooper. I hope Deveraux has as much fun writing the character as I did reading about her in  A Willing Murder. Sara Medlar bought a big mansion in Lachlan, her hometown, and hired Jack Wyatt, grandson of her childhood sweetheart, to remodel it. But, she's rattling around in that house. When Jack breaks his leg in a tragic accident, she invites him to move in. Then her niece Kate Medlar accepts a job as a realtor in Lachlan, and Sara is excited to offer her a suite in the house. But, Kate's just a little suspicious of Jack's motives. However, Kate's not there long when the trio finds somethin...

Son of Saigon by David Myles Robinson

Don't be deceived by the cover of David Myles Robinson's novel, Son of Saigon . It does have its dark moments, but the humor more than makes up for it. It's a witty, delightful story, and I was happy to hand it off to a friend. I hope he enjoyed it as much as I did. Hank Reagan is a seventy-year-old, a wealthy man who spends his days playing golf or gin with another retiree, Norm Rothstein. Since Hank's wife died, he's just waiting at the retirement community he calls "the death farm" for his own death. Norm doesn't mind looking for his sixth wife, but Hank isn't interested in all the women who are circling. Then, Tran Xuan Mai showed up to see Hank. Hank, a CIA operative was in Vietnam forty years earlier, and he and Mai were in love. When the Americans evacuated Saigon, he was forced to leave her behind, not knowing she was pregnant. Now, Mai wants Hank to find their son, a man who disappeared after his high school graduation. He'd be in his ...
