The Girl in the Abbey is set during the tumultuous period of World War 2.

Grimsby was an important British port and, as such, it was constantly under attack by Nazi bombers so many of the children of Grimsby were evacuated inland to places of safety.

Violet Cobb is one of the evacuees. Violet is a resourceful and brave young girl who finds herself waiting on the doorstep of Bramblington Abbey

May Cobb's debut suspense novel, Big Woods , isn't the type of book I would normally read. I'm not a fan of women or children in jeopardy novels. But, I was asked to review this one for a journal, and I'm glad I did. It was one of the best novels I read that month. It's a strong debut. Kingdom of the Blind by Louise Penny

It's always difficult to review one of Louise Penny's books. The plots are so entwined with the characters that it's not easy to summarize the book without revealing too much. It's release date for Kingdom of the Blind , the first book Penny wrote after her beloved husband died. There are traces of Michael, traces of loss in the book. But, there's also courage and determination. David Singleton from the Charlotte Mecklenberg Public Library said "It may be her most personal book." Armand Gamache is presently suspended from his position as Chief Superintendent of the  Sûreté  du Quebec pending investigation into events the previous summer.
